In the Urban Arrow Tales series, we portray families who experience their daily adventures with the Urban Arrow. These real Urban Arrow families discover every day how their cargo bike not only makes family life more practical but also much more fun. In the fourth edition, we introduce you to: Susanne Roobeek, her husband, and their super cute little daughter Linne.

Who are you?

We are Susanne (31), Matthijs (33), Linne (turning 2 in June) residing in Castricum. Susanne works as a principal at a primary school in Amsterdam and Matthijs as a quality coordinator at a school in Uitgeest. We have had our Urban Arrow since April 2024 and we are very happy with it!

What was the biggest reason you decided to purchase an Urban Arrow cargo bike?

The convenience of being able to take everything with us. Linne, of course, but also the parasol to the beach, groceries, or cardboard. Being able to do more with the bike so we can leave the car at home more often.

When did you first go for a ride with Linne? And what do you remember from this first cargo bike adventure?

As soon as we could pick up the cargo bike, we immediately went for a ride. First, a lap around the house. Matthijs on the bike, Linne on the bench, and Susanne on the floor of the cargo bike. We had a lot of fun! Then we immediately cycled into the dunes.

"With the cargo bike, we are often just as fast as with the car. We take everything with us, and even grandpa and grandma can easily cycle away with it!"

How has the cargo bike changed your daily routine?

We use the bike even more often. Even when it rains, Linne stays comfortably dry. So we hop on the bike to daycare or to visit grandpa and grandma. Linne often shouts: Bakkieee in!

What are the biggest advantages you've experienced since using the Urban Arrow cargo bike?

That we are often just as fast on the cargo bike as with the car. That we can very easily get Linne in and out and take everything with us. And that grandpa and grandma can also easily use the cargo bike. It is much lighter than having your child in front, which would make steering heavy.

What always goes with you in the cargo bike when you go out?

Linne, of course! And Linne loves to bring her bunny or doll, which then sits next to her on the bench. I also really like that a friend can easily join us on the bike.

Are there any specific accessories or modifications you have made to make the cargo bike even more convenient?

No, not really at the moment. I would like to order a luggage net (for example, this one from Studio Vollebak) so that the chain lock can easily be carried and doesn't rattle around on the bottom of the cargo bike while cycling.

Do you have any tips for families considering buying a cargo bike?

Go for it! It's an investment, but in our opinion, you definitely get your money’s worth. Especially if there's a second child coming or already here, it's ideal that you can take your child with you early on in the car seat adapter, making you much more mobile with the bike.

Which spots in Castricum and surroundings would you recommend for a nice family trip by (cargo) bike?

To the quiet beach of Castricum. You can only get there by bike. It is a beautiful ride through the dunes. You couldn't make us happier!
