In the Urban Arrow Tales series, we feature families experiencing their daily adventures with their Urban Arrow cargo bike. These true Urban Arrow families discover every day how their cargo bike makes family life not only more practical but also much more fun.

In this edition, we introduce to you Isabelle Knehans, her partner Jack and their adorable two kids: sweet Novi Liva and cute little Lox.

Could you introduce yourselves as a family?

We are a family of four: dad Jack (41), mom Isabelle (33), Novi Liva (4), and Lox, who turns two this August. Jack is originally from Waddinxveen and Isabelle is a true Brabander who moved to Amsterdam where Jack was living. We met at a party at Thuishaven 10 years ago. Two years ago, we left the big city for a small village nearby. Still close to the city, but a bit closer to the beach. That’s where our Urban Arrow comes in. What does a young family love to do most? Ride everywhere! Beach or city, you’ll find us out and about with our bike.

What was the main reason you decided to get an Urban Arrow?

Freedom! Especially when you're home alone with the kids and need to get out. It’s basically our second car. Suddenly, you can go anywhere, and that feels amazing. Especially with two young kids who will tear the house down if you stay inside too long!

When did you take Novi Liva & Lox out for their first ride? What do you remember about it?

Right when it arrived, we of course had to take it for a test ride! Novi Liva couldn’t wait to climb into the box. They loved it and sat there so sweetly, holding hands and looking around.

How has the cargo bike changed your daily routine?

It saves so much time. We used to walk everywhere, but anyone with young kids knows how long a "10-minute" walk to the supermarket actually takes. Now, even the stroller and all the groceries fit right in the box!

"It’s one of those things you never knew you couldn't live without.
Don't have kids? Still do it! Honestly, I love sitting in the box myself!"

What are the biggest benefits you’ve experienced?

We grab the bike instead of the car way faster now when heading to the beach or city, even if it’s a bit further away. Cruising around in the summer weather is pure bliss. The kids have a blast sitting in the box, which makes it just as enjoyable for us. Especially when they hold hands, which is just the sweetest thing!

What always comes along in the bike?

Usually an extra passenger, their favorite stuffed animal, to keep them company.

Have you added any accessories to make the bike even more convenient?

Definitely the Raincover Plus. I can’t wait for Christmas to hang fairy lights inside it. The kids love sitting in "the tent," as they call it!

Do you have any tips for families considering a cargo bike?

DO IT! It’s one of those things you never knew you couldn't live without. Don't have kids? STILL DO IT. Honestly, I love sitting in the box myself!

Which spots around Zwanenburg would you recommend for a family ride?

De Tuinen van West is fantastic for picking your own fruit. The kids love it, there are free-roaming chickens and pigs, a playground, and a lovely terrace for parents to enjoy a coffee and cake. And of course, the beach is our absolute favorite. Toss the umbrella, buckets, and towels into the box, and you’re ready to go!
