As of January 1, 2025, zero-emission zones have been introduced in many Dutch cities. New delivery vans running on fossil fuels are no longer allowed into the city. To help entrepreneurs with this transition, cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Utrecht have created their own subsidy schemes.

Amsterdam: The Transition Subsidy (up to €3,000)

The municipality of Amsterdam is a leader when it comes to stimulating emission-free transport. Do you currently have a diesel van and want to switch to an Urban Arrow Cargo or Tender? Then you can make use of the 'Emission-Free Transport Subsidy'.

The most important details:

  • Amount: You can receive up to €3,000 in subsidy per vehicle.

  • For whom: SME entrepreneurs, foundations, and associations based in Amsterdam or that drive frequently in the city.

  • The condition: The subsidy is intended for the purchase or lease of a new electric means of transport.

  • Scrapping scheme: There are often extra possibilities if you have your old diesel vehicle scrapped at the same time. This can increase the total benefit even further.

Important: Always apply for the subsidy before you definitively sign the purchase agreement. The municipality does not grant subsidies retrospectively.

Rotterdam: Scrapping scheme and advice

In Rotterdam, the focus is on the 'Logistics 010' approach. Entrepreneurs here can count on:

  • Scrapping subsidy: For replacing old delivery vans with an electric cargo bike, funds are regularly available up to €1,500.

  • Free advice: You can engage a logistics broker who will calculate for free how much you save with an Urban Arrow Tender compared to a delivery van.

Utrecht: Clean transport for the city center

Utrecht encourages shared mobility and the purchase of private cargo bikes for entrepreneurs in the city center.

  • Purchase subsidy: Depending on the current budget, Utrecht offers subsidies that can amount to €2,000 for electric cargo bikes that reduce logistical pressure in the city.

Why take action now?

The combination of local subsidies and national tax benefits creates a unique entry point. If we look at the price of an Urban Arrow (e.g., €6,899 incl. VAT / €5,701.65 excl. VAT):

  1. Municipality of Amsterdam: - €1,500 to €3,000

  2. Tax deduction (MIA/KIA): Savings on your profit tax.

  3. Net investment: In the most favorable cases, an investment remains that is lower than the purchase of a second-hand delivery van, while your operational costs (fuel, parking, maintenance) are virtually zero.

Checklist for your application:

Check your region: Go to your municipality's website and search for "Emission-free transport subsidy" or "Zero-emission zone".

Customized quote: Ensure you have a quote from your Urban Arrow dealer with the correct specifications (keep the 75 kg limit for MIA in mind).

Submit your application: Always do this before you order the bike.

Why your business benefits:

  1. Low costs: No road tax, and energy and maintenance costs are lower than for a van.

  2. Image: You visibly contribute to a more livable city.

  3. Time savings: Bypass traffic jams and skip the search for parking.
