Choose a safe ride: Put it on!

Choose a safe ride: Put it on!

Date

15 April 2026

At Urban Arrow, we believe in the freedom of the city. In the ease with which you breeze past traffic jams, with the box loaded with groceries or your most precious possession: your kids. We build our bikes to be as safe and stable as possible, but we take the biggest step in safety together. On April 15th, we celebrate Bicycle Helmet Day, and we invite you to join in!

The new standard

Look around the city and you’ll see it already: the bicycle helmet is making a huge comeback. What used to be only for road cyclists is now the logical choice for everyone moving through traffic in a smart and stylish way. Just like the seatbelt was new once, we are now moving towards a future where wearing a helmet on a (cargo) bike is the most natural thing in the world. Not because you have to, but because we care about ourselves and each other.

Did you know…?

Did you know that the world of bicycle helmets is incredibly innovative? We’ve listed a few fun facts for you, inspired by the ‘Zet ‘m op!’ (Put it on!) campaign by the Dutch government:

  • Lightweight champion: A light helmet is just as safe as a heavy one. It’s all about the smart materials inside, not the weight on your head.

  • The same 'bodyguard': Did you know that the inside of most helmets is made of the same material as the box of your Urban Arrow? This material (EPP) is designed to absorb and withstand heavy impacts. An extra safe feeling!

  • The 5-year rule: A good helmet is your faithful companion for about 5 years. After that, the material becomes slightly less strong, and it’s time for a fresh, new model.

  • Match your style: These days, there is so much choice in shapes and colors that there’s always a helmet that perfectly matches the color of your Urban Arrow.

  • Finger on the pulse: You know your helmet fits perfectly when exactly one finger fits between the chin strap and your chin. Easy does it.

How to choose the right 'crown'?

A helmet shouldn’t just be safe; it should also be comfortable. When you go out to pick one, here are a few golden tips:

  • Horizontal is key: Wear your helmet straight on your head. It should properly cover your forehead, the sides of your head, and the back of your head (about two fingers above your eyebrows).

  • Fit with your gear: Take your sunglasses to the store. The arms of your glasses should go over the straps of your helmet.

  • Keep it fresh: Do you get warm quickly? Choose a model with plenty of air vents to keep a cool head.

Lead by example

Many parents already faithfully put a helmet on their children in the box. That’s fantastic! But the best way to teach your children that safety counts is by clicking on your own helmet as well. Starting today (April 15th), let’s kick off a new habit together.
